TO WATCH FOR WHALES

A family speaks
In high pitch
As they prepare for the deep.
The inhalations are proud
With unchallenged force--

Will their return be delayed
As they explore the depths?
Though out of sight from their young
They are seldom out of range,
These monsters of frequency--

The calm above elevates his anticipation,
And appreciation.
Will the surface part in graceful wake
Or break in powerful breach?

To watch for whales--
