THROUGH THE EYES OF MAN

Why must they look at death in such an awesome way?
Are they not creatures with brain and bone and heart?
Their life may go to a century...or more,
They are animals
Yet what about their "counterparts"?

The graceful salmon swims away for a short time,
Then through great odds, returns, to lay their eggs and die;
No other hope.
Deep within something tell them where and when and why,
And how to find their distant place of birth.

When man is but a teen, his good friend dog is old and dying.
When in his prime, the great horse aged, the cow already gone;
Why so fearful?
Is lurking in their mind, something other animals do not share;
An awe or fear of where they may be going?
