THIS BED

So inviting
With love lapping at their toes,
A playful pup
Impetuous but endearing.

So cramped
With anger wedged between them,
A cumbrous cat
Unwelcome but unbudging.

So vast
With absence beneath your sheet,
A phantom limb
Severed but ever aching.
