THE PHONE

Every time she picks up the phone
She dreams of hearing your voice on
The other end
Telling her you're sorry for what
You said
And that they can be together
Again

She listens for static before she says
"Hello"
When the line's clear
She can't help but wonder
What happened here?

The phone rang one night
Nothing but the dial tone
Was this her imagination?
Or was she feeling alone?

The phone hasn't rung for awhile
And she misses you calling her
She wishes the phone would ring
So she can be happy again
