THE DAY YOU WENT AWAY
You knew and they all knew,
You were going away.
But all the thoughts they tried to erase.
Sadness was tugging at their heart strings...
They wanted you to stay.
The happy face, and bright smile
You had for all, and the kind words all
Now are gone.
She must have walked a million miles.
Afraid, when you went, she'd fall.
By your side until the end,
She'd gladly do it over again.
They didn't speak all night.
They were praying...there might be days to lend,
But your time had come.
You left, and many hearts were aching.
It's been a hard load to carry,
But sometimes you seem to tarry
To let them know you have passed near
Them...hoping to bring comfort.
