SHADOW DANCING

In the darkness, she lit a candle.

The flame flickered rhythmically to and fro;
As she watched, shadows danced upon the wall.

A figure emerged and took her hand...
She freed herself of earthly bonds
To become shadow;
To dance in harmony upon the wall.

The flame became but a glow...
The shadows retreated into the coldness of the cold.
She stands motionless in a corner
As dawn reclaimed the room.

It brought no fantasies;
It brought no promises.

The spell was broken
As she stood motionless
Against the wall.
