REALITY OF A DREAM

They sat in the same room only a few feet apart,
But speak not a word.
They pass each other by with barely a glance.
They exchange friendly words with those around them
But never with each other.
Two people who once shared so much
Now share nothing at all.
They used to talk for hours on end
But now have nothing to say.
The promise to remain friends slipped through
Their fingers like grains of sand.
What happened to that promise?
