OLD MEN

Gray eagles
Lonely in clusters
Roosting on branches
Because they cannot fly
Because there is belonging there
Where halting gait
And rounded back
And trembling hand
Pass almost unnoticed
Where collective memory
Becomes one's own
And yesterdays live now
Where pain lives deep
In the lines it carved
And eternity one breath distant.
