ODE TO THE PATRIOTS

"My country 'tis of thee," a song they all should know.
"Sweet land of liberty" founded so long ago.

For this land their fathers died and fought for through the nights.
Standing strong battle so that they could have their rights.

Every year they celebrate with skies all aglow.
They remind them of those fateful nights their soldiers fought on long ago.

Their flag waves so proud upon that silver pole.
Standing there reminding them they've defeated every foe.

Black, white, whatever race there's one thing they all share;
Bloodshed on the battlegrounds. Their loyalty lies there.

Through the great historians, like Thomas, George and Abe,
They've left the respected legacy They'll stand through every age.

The fireworks are nice and the hot dogs taste so good,
But all too often they commercialize why their soldiers stood.
