LITTLE CHICK
A small Little Chicken came into their Texas yard
Of Brown dirt and clay; She was not too big, nor
Small with her little three-tiered red crown,
Her white feathers were thin; yet she ran around and around
Their yard.
Well, they went out, after Little Chick gave up her circling
Frenzy and gave her milk, water, and dried bread--but
She would not touch her food.
One day she stepped into their back door of the house and
Walked and ran about. She did not know what to do.
Uncle Pete got her caught up in the fireplace
And closed the netted screen.
After she relaxed Uncle Frank picked her up and
Returned her to the yard.
The next morning--they do not know where Little Chick
Went, as if she was lost, or merely looking
For eternity.
