HIS HANDS

A twisted, broken finger seems to be in command
Of the calloused, work-worn hands.
Stains from oil and grease emphasize the scars and cuts
Not having time to heal before more are added.
Chipped, jagged fingernails are still caked with dirt
From yet another day of hard work.
These hands are rough and scratchy
As he does his daily routine.
But when he touches her, she believes no other hands
Could be as soft or more tender.
She knows there will never be a more loving feeling
Than the touch from his beautiful, gentle hands.
