HER HOME

Herbs of many kinds climb the steps.
The lemon balm, sage, and oregano
Cry for you to smell them.
The eucalyptus reaches for the sun.

Entering through the door, pictures
Jump out.
Proms, dances, vacations.
Tears gone by.

Dickens' Works, Scott's Works, Shakespeare
And Poe sit on the shelves waiting
To be read.
The well worn pages of Little Women
Sits on the table.

TV controls collecting dust.
Magazines strewn all over.
CD cases piled near the stereo.

The quiet rumble of the dryer,
Warm folded towels,
Socks, shorts, and t-shirts piled high,
The smell of Snuggle in the air.
