HER HEART II

Who gave you leave to break her heart?
It was not yours;
She kept it on a shelf
Displayed among other collectables
(Is that what tempted you?),
Behind glass doors,
Safe,
Never lent to children,
Accumulating dust--
But pretty;
Never cracked, not too faded;
Not yet an antique,
But still marketable and substantial.
And now--
It's all sharp shards and pointed pieces.
Keep it--or throw it out.
It is no use to her.
It's yours.
