HER BOX OF CHRISTMAS CARDS

This year, as she reaches for that certain box
Placed high on a closet shelf,
Much-needed space could better be used,
She tries to convince herself.

Then she opens its lid on Christmas Past--
From childhood to yesterday--
And she touches a piece of memory
That each year has turned away!

It's so good to be reminded how
To find comfort in things so dear,
That will help their hearts remember
To feel their loved ones near.

Many now, have died--and gone
Away from the life they shared.
But in her box of Christmas cards,
In hand--written notes, they cared.

With heart renewed, she replaces the box,
And she whispers a solemn vow--
To live a life that reflects the love
Of the ones who taught her how!
