FATHER'S DAY AT THE MAUSOLEUM
This was the first Father's Day
Since his daddy went away.
A solemn occasion!
So sad!
He did not know
The time "daddy" would go.
Who does?
Nobody!
She was along
In the solemn throng
To visit "dad."
She felt honored, and pleased,
To be invited.
She is no relation to the deceased.
She, son, and the twin granddaughters
Entered the little chapel room
Where "dad" lay in his tomb.
The son gazed a long while
Where his dad was buried in such grand style.
He put the bouquet
In the urn
And whispered, softly
"Happy Father's Day, Dad."
In reverential silence,
He locked the door
And they all went away.
All the way
Home,
No one had anything much to say.
Each was lost in private thought
About what this day,
To them,
Had wrought.
