EMPTY NEST
How easy to remember the feelings that she had,
When you were very little and her heart was full and glad.
How easy to forget the moments that they shared,
When you proved to her in a billion ways
How much you really cared.
From the moment you were born--she knew her heart was torn,
Between giving you the best, and loving you to death.
Through the years she's tried to keep you
Under her wing.
One hand holding, protecting, stifling.
The other hand trying
To loosen her grasp.
Hoping you would fly--but never too fast!
Although it seems that you've left her
A light year too soon,
She recalls that you were always
A child of the moon.
And now that your wings have soared through the night,
She hopes that they're not broken in perilous flight!
