DEAR MAMA

Do lazy cows still lowly moo
In the meadow o'er the hill,
Do whippoorwills still sing their song
In voices soft and shrill?

Do guinea fowl still cry for rain
When day is nearly through,
Do songbirds sing their sweet refrain
When morning dawns anew?

Do shining stars still dot the sky
On still hot summer nights,
Do crickets dance and junebugs prance
In Papa's barn door light?

Do fireflies still light the lane
Where as a youth he ran,
And later when his heart turned bold
He held his true love's hand?

All these things his heart holds dear
Wherever he may roam,
And deep inside a part of him
She'll still remain at home.
