She fled the ancient stomping grounds, from whence the reflex came.
The prehistoric impulse, and source of all her shame.

The drives which save the species, weigh heavy on her soul.
And when her reason flounders, she sinks deeper in her hole.

She seeks solace in religion, and books with themes sublime.
But find when forced with basics, her brain moves back in time.

So with their dueling natures, they bear a heavy cross.
But when their senses fail them, their id has no such loss.

The priest will light their future, but the ape will save the race.
To stake a claim in eons, creeping things they must embrace.
