AN EVENING IN SOLITUDE

She watches a purple mountain,
Silhouetted against a sky of blue,
A sunset slipping behind her peaks,
To signify another day is thru.

The song of a lonely Bobwhite,
Echoes on the still evening air,
Calling, come home, to a mate,
Who will never be there.

Darkness descends,
24 Hours has breathed its last,
And the memories that molded this day,
Are now relegated to the past.

Prayers are said on bended knee,
For another glorious morn,
For the wish to just be alive,
On the sunrise about to be born.

So she exalts as she watches this scene,
And she bids a fond adieu,
And welcomes tomorrow, with all that it brings,
And another day with you.
