A TREE

If he could be anything alive today other than him--
He'd like very much to be a tree.

A tree grows deep and it grows tall.
It just stands there for the comfort of them all.

When he's old he needs a cane.
When he's wounded he needs a crutch.
When he walks in the park he needs a bench.

So if he could be anything alive today other than him--
He'd like very much to be a plain tree.

A tree does not argue neither does a tree fuss.
It just stands there for each of them.

There are dolphins in the ocean and great whales in the sea.
As great are they are they don't even--touch a tree.

How boring life would be to walk out in the morning--
And couldn't see a tree.

So if he could be anything alive today other than him--
He'd like very much to be a plain tree.
