TOO LATE

You looked down at her.
Your eyes filled with tears.
The words rolled off your tongue.
The words she'd longed to hear.
"I love you!" you cried,
But your declaration fell on deaf ears.
Why couldn't you have said those words
When she was there to hear?
Now it was too late, her dear, for her to hear your cry.
Why, oh why, would you not pledge your love while she was
Still alive?
She'll never know why you had to wait until the day she died.
