ONCE

It's faded now
This old robe
Once Robin blue.

Threadbare elbows
Frayed cuffs and hem--
Still
She wraps herself in its cocoon
When Winter's breath is near.

They'd watch old movies
Then make love
While the screen turned fuzzy and
Popcorn kernels had somehow
Nestled in the sheets.

She no longer watches these movies
No unpopped kernels does she find
For she would be reminded that
It is Winter once again.

So memories fade like
This old robe
Once Robin blue.
