ON THE RELATIVITY OF TIME

Did it ever occur to you as it has to him
That time does not run constantly, smoothly?

Where there is pain, an ache
Time almost stands still
As you lie there, wide awake.

But in carefree, happy time.
Time sheds will stake
And rushes forward, in a bloom
Leaving fading memories in its wake--

Caught up in this cyclone whirl
Their time together seems to hurl
Then in relentless haste they can't suppress
Toward a final place and timelessness.

Together then, this journey they will take--
Though wretching, slow in times of sorrow, wrath.
But then at blinding speed they'll make
Their way down some happy path
And enjoy there fleeting moments
Before it is too late.
