IN THE EYES OF A CHILD IN NEED

When she looks into the eyes of a child in need,
She wonders where she's been and just what it is that's she's seen.
She wonders where she's lived and comforted at home.
Or if she even has a place that she can call her own.
Is there food on the table at the end of the day?
Is there someone there to show her the way?
What she does know is that she feels her pain.
And she wonders what it is that holds the blame.
Was she deserted as a baby and left on her own?
Is she lost, scared, and completely alone?
Yes, she sees fear. And yes, she sees pain.
Now she sees tears falling like rain.
It's sad, but it's true--all this she sees,
When she looks into the eyes of a child in need.
