HE BEAT THE BATTLE

Tho' his experiences have been hard and long
And the pressures he carried were deep and strong
He stared fear in the eyes

Tho' the trodden mud stuck under his feet
He thought of places that were soft and sweet
Where deep in his heart it lies

He beat the battle with feelings of grace
He stood and looked death right in the face
With all that he had inside

Tho' with his dirty body and bloody hands
He tilled and plowed other man's lands
Still holding his head with pride

Whereas today he still looks back
And looks down that old railroad track
And remembers where he once was

But he is here now, he is not there anymore
Today he tilled his land to the core
And he is happy and proud because
He Beat the Battle
